
Director, Ayumi Nakamae

Ayumi Nakamae will begin joining the rehearsals beginning November 1, 2025 and will begin directing responsibilities effective January 1, 2026
Ayumi Nakamae is a distinguished soprano and dedicated voice teacher who has made significant contributions to the field of music throughout her career. As an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), she has held various leadership roles, including North Carolina District Governor, President, Auditions Chair, and Secretary. Currently, she is working on the creation of the NATS Japan Chapter, further expanding her influence and dedication to the organization.
Ayumi's students have participated in National Student Auditions and have progressed to the national level, showcasing her exceptional teaching abilities. She offers private voice instruction, group voice classes through the Jacksonville City Recs and Parks program, and voice masterclasses, providing a comprehensive and enriching learning experience for her students.
For 20 years, Ayumi served as the choral director for the Coastal Carolina Community Choir, where she led the choir in two concerts per academic year and occasional special events, such as the Beirut Memorial. Her choir members have also participated in North Carolina ACDA special choirs, including the All Men’s Chorus and Collegiate Festival Chorus, highlighting her commitment to choral excellence.
An active member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the College Music Society, Ayumi is currently serving as a council member of Music in General Studies. She co-hosts peer-led discussions and is co-writing a book about college teaching in general studies in music, demonstrating her dedication to advancing music education.
Ayumi retired from college teaching in 2024. She continues to dedicate her life to enrich lives by providing opportunities to the community in the US and Japan.
